While I’ll edit my comment to be more careful, I don’t think that it ruins it in this case, especially without knowing what exactly happens. This user clearly has heard the buzz already.
Check the other comments. There’s some that get entirely too close to spoiler territory.
Honestly, it’s a recurring problem with DDLC. A lot of people who are willing to play it are weebs (myself included), and as a demographic they’re famously lacking in moderation in discussion
Like the other guy said, at risk of being wooshed, how far did you get into it? It should become obvious pretty early on that it is NOT a normal anime VN
Are you serious? Because if yes, then you played not enough. The first act is like a dating visual novel. After that point, it’s not. Still it stays a visual novel and that won’t change but it’s not dating.
If you need a non story spoiler to know when the point is reached:
The Spoiler
The game resets to the main menu after a scene and it looks like it begins from the beginning but you notice it’s different. Thats the point where it changes.
Of course a visual novel is a different kind of game and I usually don’t like it, as its mostly reading, with a few choices. Its like reading an interactive book with a few visuals.
Edit: fricking spoiler tag didn’t worked in the first time
The prep for the festival is Act 1. With the first day of the festival, Act 1 ends. So its not that much ahead of you.
I’ve looked at my Steam page and in my Review 8 years ago, I actually wrote that the first Act is kinda “uninteresting”. My playtime is clocked in at 45 Minutes, for the original game. The plus version I played on Switch but the main story is the same.
I downloaded Doki Doki LC because it got removed from play store and I wanted to see what the hype was.
What the fuck? It’s sooooo boring, does it even get good or is it just a dating sim for weebs?
I’m fully aware I might be missing something or even not giving it enough playtime, my attention span does not care for it.
Anyway, hopefully this doesn’t turn out to be shit because of hype hype rhythm rhythm
You need to play it longer. It is not a dating sim. It is a horror game and it is absolutely fucked up.
let’s just say, you haven’t played long enough
It gets really good. You are being set up to think what youre thinking, keep going
Ok then, that’s a relief
I’ll stick at it. Based on everyone elses replies I should just suck it up and carry on
Yes, keep playing! It plays it totally straight for an hour or so, then it gets good.
But now they’re expecting it. It doesn’t have the same effect when you tell them

I wouldn’t call it “early on”. It takes 3-4 hours total to get entirely through the game
I feel like I might be getting whooshed here, I can’t tell if you’re being serious

I’m not bothered about it being a visual novel at all, just didn’t like slow it is.
Everyone else who replied has basically said the same thing so I’ll keep going.
I’m just about to do the festival so in reality I’m probably only at chapter 2 or something
Just gently open the door.
You need to do multiple playthroughs. You’ll understand more later.
For me, one playthrough lasted somewhere between 1-2 hours, but it’s been years since I last played

I watched a video of someone playing it a few years back and that was good enough for me
Keep going mate, you won’t regret it mate lol
