Okay, ignoring that reading this has made me even stupider - I always assume there was SOME kind of thought process that lead to such statements (yeah yeah I know, haha politicians and thought processes ololollol) and I’m very interested in this one. What exactly happened there? Where did the connection between the Hagia Sophia and the office of senator for South Carolina come from? What is he free-associating?

He is a senator. The Roman empire continues.

Even senators need some kind of prompt to produce their nonsense. Who told this guy the Hagia Sophia was in the circle of influence of the SC senator?

US politicians believe their constituents elect them to police the middle east. See everything in Iran, Iraq, their rabbid support for Israel, etc.

They truly believe that God granted them this power to spread his war on Muslims. That’s why a SC sensor thinks he has control over Hagia Sophia.

Okay, yes, that makes sense (as in, I can see where this is coming from, not as in, it’s sensible). But a senator? Potus, sure, obviously. Possibly a governor even. A senator? This seems like a fundamental misunderstanding of the office itself.
