I can’t imagine large ones are anything but annoying. However, a family one or a couple friends works out pretty well.

I happen to be in a couple of both of those so I’m a little biased. The family one is good for planning and sharing pictures from time to time. The friend one is good for sending memes and shit.

Edit: even then, if one of those starts going off and has nothing to do with me, I’ll mute notifications for an hour or so.

We have a neighborhood one that’s pretty great, because we somehow got our city councilman to join. Now if there’s a water main break or something, we get live updates on it.

I feel with group chats that one’s company, two’s a crowd. I’m in more than one, but I can only pay attention to one at any given time. Some of them I dip out of for long intervals before I dip back in.

My mother’s husband sometimes creates random new group chats. They’re all one offs and he just makes new ones somehow.

The only one I’m in is my husband, my twin, and myself. We usually use it for groceries so twin knows what to bring home.
