Imagine being fucking 42 and still willing to kill/die for this shithole country. wew.
Idk, I think there’s a real demographic of Divorced Dads who could qualify.
*massacres entire village*
“fuck you, stacy!”
As a soldier, don’t we reserve the right to ignore orders that are unconstitutional?
The Epstein class has to cull the proletariat somehow.
If they start the draft, many of us will just have to become trans, get bone spurs, or have low T.
Low T won’t save you as Hegseth wants to inject soldiers with T. Being trans also won’t save you as they will happily change their tune on the trans military ban during a draft as an excuse to throw trans women into the meat grinder.
I can’t wait for the lawsuits around legally compelled detransititions for military draft or any government positions.
They won’t refuse trans soldiers. They will just ban any action or expression which conforms to a gender identity not consistent with sex at birth, and selectively hand out corporal punishment for perceived infractions.
Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia
We’re at war with Westasia too though.
35 is also pushing it
Donald Trump and his war and all his followers can literally go fuck right on off with that bullshit. You can send all the republicans who voted for this shit including the republican senators. If 42 is cool, why not even older. Shit, they’ve lived their lives. Take one for the team guys
And here I was expecting that AI will allow people to be more productive and retire early. Man, I was so naive.
No AI gets to make art and design systems which will leave us free to do the back breaking manual labor.
AI does not make art. It makes soulless, meaningless slop.
But at least it’s enabling child predators! Wait. Oh, no. Is AI actually a bad thing!?
I still have high hopes it’ll help the environment, at least?
Was? You think that AI is done causing problems? There are whole new classes of unknown problems waiting for us in the future…
“Was” doesn’t imply they think we’ve hit rock-bottom.
They were naive to think “AI” would improve things, but now they are appropriately pessimistic going forward.
I’m feeling goarmy
recruit me at 39 and I hurt my back on day 1 tying my boots
Make it a donut hole. Not eliglbe between the ages of 36 and 66 ^1/2. Drone technology can easily be applied to rollators and walkers.
I’m pretty sure that what you’re suggesting is very nearly the plot of John Scalzi’s “Old Man’s War”
So you’re saying I still might have a chance to frag a commander, after all?

Of course never would i EVER frag a commandant of the New Reich in his own tent with his own ordinance, trust me bro! Why would I, a humble conscript, ever lash out at the fascist regime that’s rounding up so many of my loved ones for summary extermination? Golly that would be awfully mean of me, just too cruel of me by far, to return even the tiniest, barest fraction of the gut wrenching agonizing tragedy they inflicted on us all BACK to them. Goodness forbid.
I’m not dying for rich people that got power and decided to break literally every stabilizing thing in geopolitics so that they could make more money and then start a war to cover it up.
I might die because of them, but there’s no way I’m dying for them. If they draft, I’m running. call me whatever you want.
I’ll hide ya.
I’d call you sane
In totalitarian regimes—communism, fascism, religious fundamentalism—popular support is a given. You can start wars, you can prolong them, you can put anyone in uniform for any length of time without ever having to worry about the slightest political backlash. In a democracy, the polar opposite is true. Public support must be husbanded as a finite national resource. It must be spent wisely, sparingly, and with the greatest return on your investment. America is especially sensitive to war weariness, and nothing brings on a backlash like the perception of defeat. I say “perception” because America is a very all-or-nothing society. We like the big win, the touchdown, the knockout in the first round. We like to know, and for everyone else to know, that our victory wasn’t only uncontested, it was positively devastating. -Max Brooks, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
communism, fascism, religious fundamentalism
democracy
Point of order, democracy is a mechanism for selecting leadership, not an ideology of governance.
Democracies routinely produce Communist, Fascist, and Religious Fundamentalist leaders.
Like, I know it’s a quote and all. But it’s just a Baby’s First PolySci view of how civilizations organize themselves. Not an ounce of Lockean Theory to be found.
That’s before you get into the reality of Republican governance and practical enfranchisement. You can’t go rolling up on Thomas Jefferson’s slaves and announcing “Idiots, it’s a democracy, why did you vote for this?”
Thanks. I’ll convey this to Mr. Brooks for his consideration.
democracy is a mechanism for selecting leadership
No, it’s not. Or well, it’s more than that – especially ideologically. Quod omnes tangit, ab omnibus approbari debet – “what concerns everyone must be approved by everyone”.
what concerns everyone must be approved by everyone
Democracies don’t function this way. Majoritarian rule regionally occurs in defiance of some portion of the public citizenry.
Depending on how the Democracy is organized bureaucratically, it may even be the majority of the citizenry.
You could get a waver to join at that age. I do think the US Military is a great option for people but it can be hard on a family though. It’s one of the reasons most of my friends did not renew. At 42 your probably have kids and probably have your life mostly fleshed out. The military was great for a lot of my friends and the benefits are good.
This admin I don’t trust why they are moving the goal post
