One of the best kept secrets in the drug world is how well nitrous combines with psychedelics. It can make one hit of acid feel like ten hits of acid for about 60 seconds, which is a safer way to do some deep mental exploration without actually taking 10 hits of acid and riding that massive high for 12 hours.
Now, the safety information for anyone who hears that and gets a bright idea:
Nitrous oxide in recreational amounts inhibits the bodies ability to absorb B12 for days to a week. People who reuse within that window end up with a big B12 deficiency that can cause huge problems to multiple body systems. Anyone using nitrous should take a break of a month or longer between uses and be supplementing with vitamins to keep your levels up. You are safer doing more in a session and taking a long break than you are doing less of it very frequently.
The reason to use a balloon to inhale the nitrous rather than taking it straight out of the can like Steve O is that the nitrous comes out very cold and can have super frozen fluid that sprays out if held upside down. Dispensing it into a balloon and then inhaling from the balloon allows it to warm up so it doesn’t freeze your throat and causes you to suffocate or get freezer burn in your lungs.
Your brain needs oxygen. Take at least two deep breaths of oxygen for every one inhale of nitrous. Nitrous is heavier than air, so make sure to really exhale when you’re inhaling fresh oxygen. If your lips look blue, you need more oxygen. Make sure the room is well ventilated—it can create an invisible intoxicating cloud in enclosed spaces. This is especially risky if you have a tank that gets a leak because you’ll be too fucked up to walk yourself out of the closet to safety.
And my final pro tip: don’t look up when you’re inhaling the balloon! Your spit will dribble in the balloon and collect in the bottom, so if you tilt the balloon up, you will get Poseidon’s pickleback directly into your mouth, and when you’re already tripping, that is basically the final circle of hell.
You can end up in a wheelchair if you abuse NOx. Severe B12 deficiency will damage the nervous system.
Yep. Taking long breaks and using vitamins is absolutely essential. It’s crazy that more people don’t know that in the culture.
Yeah, had a good few years where we did a lot of Nos, we’re getting tanks of it from Bristol PA, $130 for a 20lber. I used to drive down, fill up two, and show up to a party and absolutely kill the mood. Went from loud people being silly to half of the partygoers up in a bedroom wonking out. I say that with a fondness too, it was silly.
And it went great with acid, k, and MDMA. I’d say K was the most frequent mixture for me, mainly because you could do nitrous and K, sober up for an hour, drink some Gatorade and a 5-hour energy, and you’re straight up good to go, it was almost disturbing, and it led to some abuse.
Those days are long gone, but I’ll never besmirch people exploring their brains. Just do it safely.
I think I’ll just continue to not do whippits

I commend your service, psychonaut.
Thanks for trying to educate people on this matter.
Just don’t breath the shit, safer still. There are ways to do deep mental exploration without drugs.
Which take hours of daily work for years. Tell that to people suffering from depression who are struggling to get the most basic things done, like showering regularly. A single session with the right psychedelic can give you a push into an upward cycle thats worth hundreds of hours of mental training.
Nitrous Oxide is not really needed for it though imo, its more of an added pleasure thing. But LSD is one of the safest drugs we know and its benefits compared to other drugs like coffee (wakes you up) are enormous.
Actually, yeah. This much is true. On my way out of religion, I had a friend offer to Sherpa for my first trip. I’m glad I took her up on it. She was compassionate, thoughtful, and very experienced. Definitely reacquainted me with some things I thought I’d buried, and I finally got to put them to bed for good.
I wouldn’t recommend it for everybody, obviously. But for an extremely confusing and distressing period in my life, it probably saved me years and years of emotional agony.
But if you do, do it as safely as possible.
You mean thinking? BLEUGH.
This image is fucken hilarious but if you have ever been there I hope you get out. Shit sucks.
I watched him live on Tom Green’s live stream from his living room during this era, right as he was hitting rock bottom.
He got out. And so can anyone else reading this.
He got clean right? And now talks about how addiction fucked him up. Have a lot of respect for that as someone who is sober now too. Shit’s hard sometimes.
He’s strict with drugs still including pain killers in hospital. Did his vasectomy on camera without numbing.
One exception was for his pay to view stunts video he did a couple years back where he found a willing quack to inject something directly into his spinal cord and then immediately sprint until he was temporarily paralysed. He was okay with that since it was brief, not fun, and not psychoactive.

Mad respect
he just shifted to a vegetal addiction
Yeah, this photo was actually one of the things that he credits with helping him get clean. Because this was basically rock bottom for him, and seeing this photo in tabloids was a large part of what made him realize how bad his addiction truly was.
He did the same thing that a lot of addicts do, and basically did a full 180 into health and fitness instead. Basically replaced the drug high with a workout high.
He went clean AND vegan and his doctor told him he had the cleanest bloodwork he’d ever seen. Which is to say equally clean as everybody else whose bloodwork came up clean.
Decent podcast too where he talks to other people about similar stuff.
The NO2 stage wasn’t the worst part by a long shot

Now whippet. Whippet it good.
First you gotta shape it up. Get it straight.
SNAP!
Boy dinner
Is that Steveo?
Steve-O.

Ah yes, Brain damage in a canister.
Only if used very irresponsibly. You can inhale 500 of those canisters in a night, just make sure to breathe air between hits and take a break of a few weeks afterwards, let your B12 regenerate and youre good. Probably less harmful than a bottle of wine. Luckily the war on drugs gave us extensive education to avoid such silly mistakes and handle drugs with care. /s
Edit: So this comment sounded too carefree Ill admit. Obviously dont do 500 canisters of nitrous in a day, you will probably regret it. I was exaggerating. Even if true in theory, it is not likely that you can do that much while following safety guidelines.
Im saying it is safe to use only when doing it correctly. Using a balloon, lying down(never standing), breathing between doses and taking long breaks (~ a month) between sessions are a must, but easily doable. If possible, have someone with you. Supplementing B12 a few days after sessions is also advisable.
if you tell yourself that to feel yourself more safe I’m not gonna break the spell.
But damn I was waiting to see what kind of comment addicts would leave.
500 canisters darn it!
like only thinking about the money people may spend to get high instead of using it for literally whatever else.
The user you’re replying to is doing a public service. People are going to do drugs. People, in general, are attracted to transporting experiences. For many, that is going to include one or more substances.
Imagine half of all people didn’t know it’s a good idea to wear a seatbelt or wear a helmet on the bike. That’s where we’re at in our society in terms of educative harm reduction with drugs, even the legal ones.
Taking a moralizing stance against recreational drug usage in 2026 is just wild. It’s some reefer madness shit, really counterproductive. I would examine why you feel so strongly about what someone else puts into their own body, and I mean that sincerely.
I would understand it if it said “it’s not safe but doing X and Y lowers the risk” but he is basically saying that it IS safe if you do X and Y, and that’s simply a whole world of difference.
I mean, barring the canister falling on your head, external factors like a plane crashing into your house, and maybe extremely rare genetic abnormalities, you will be safe if you follow those instructions to the letter and are already in good health. It’s pharmacology and common sense, not magic. If it still freaks you out, that’s fine - you don’t need to shit on someone else’s thing though, just keep yourself away from it if you already know it’s not for you.
Safe as in as safe as how people used to say weed was, that it was basically inocuous, that you couldn’t become addicted, yadayada until science came with evidence that yes, you can become addicted and that it also causes cognitive damage long term?
I just see again this same story of a magical drug that supposedly is totally safe if you ask people who consume it yet there are lots and lot of cases of people who caused themselves brain damage with this, suuure maybe they weren’t doing your special formula, but how are you really sure about it lol.
people who say it’s safe are no doctors, actually doctors I can find on the internet say it’s by far a terrible idea, they are users who may have an incentive to tell themselves it’s ok.
Ok now this is an interesting comparison you bring up, let’s see:
Nitrous Oxide:
N2O, that’s it, a simple molecule. It’s used constantly in medical contexts, where its safety profile is so well understood and its action is so consistent, it’s given to pregnant women in childbirth to manage pain and anxiety. Binds to one receptor, clear mechanism of action. Possibly the most well-understood mind-altering substance in existence.
Cannabis:
a plant - a complex multicellular organism. Consumers inhale/digest/absorb an entourage of dozens of different compounds bundled together. Countless strains, cultivars and growing methods, with no two being the same, all with their own unique genetics and chemical “fingerprint”. Preparation and consumption method adds even more complexity. Multiply that by 100s of millions of consumers worldwide, each one with their own human body, no two the same. An unfathomable level of complexity, which science is actively researching on a continual basis. Binds to many different receptors/systems when consumed.
We continue ironing out the details of long term safety and how best to harness it medically. And, guess what, responsible users are more than willing to change their mind and their habits when new information is uncovered. And yet, it is still mostly safe for most people, and still safer than most other recreational substances by a wide margin. There is no practical LD50 for cannabis or its constituents. The “lethal dose” would be so comically large, it would be physically impossible to consume in time to do any harm at all. You’re orders of magnitude more likely to be crushed to death by a giant weed bale accidentally falling over on top of you than you would be consuming it.
I dont know what youre on about. I dont even use Nitrous Oxide regularly, like a short session every half year or so. Im simply trying to educate people with unbased prejudices about the actual harms instead of fearmongering. A single canister is just as harmful (assuming other basic safety precautions like a balloon, lying down, breathing enough air) as 500 at a time, thats what I was trying to convey (one canister like the ones in the picture is a single dose as in a single breath which will get you sedated for about a minute, for those who dont know) I dont know if its even realistic to use so many in a single day. That would be hours of constant use.
The point Im trying to make is 1 canister on monday and 1 canister on friday is way worse for long term damages to the body than 500 on monday with a break afterwards. Its important to know for people who want to try it because its counterintuitive and differs from other drugs in that regard. Just going in uneducated like “Im not even doing that much, just once every few days” is actually harmful and easily avoidable.
Also, why judge what people spend their money on to have fun? Are you only spending it for ending wars and feeding the hungry? I assume you dont have a TV, a PC, novels, candy, fun with friends, coz those are all just hedonistic and you should judge them the same way. Oh and obviously you dont drink or smoke, right? Because society evolving in a way that made us embrace two of the most harmful drugs ever known, keeping them legal and socially accepted, does not make them less harmful. Caffeine and chocolate (theobromine) are also drugs with worse effects (even if neglectable compared to most other drugs) on the body than N2O btw. Judging people for using one drug and not for using an other would just be double standard.
If you think Nitrous Oxide has unavoidable risks, you are free to do your research and provide some sources. I will gladly be proven wrong by scientific research.
Edit: rereading my comment above, it really does sound too positive in favor of N2O, I will editi it. I dont want people to underestimate the substance either.
What are the blue pills? Or is this all nitrous canisters?
As a man of culture, I can confirm that those are all nitrous canisters. I can also confirm that they are a bad brand, and that people should seek more pure canisters if they want to really know what that face is for.
I’m used to seeing the big tanks. Those blue canisters look even smaller then small canisters I’ve seeing.
I’m not a man of nitrous culture apparently lol. One of the only times I tried it I was standing up and passes out for a second.
It is
Done this like five times ever and it is pretty great. Luckily it’s expensive. You do feel pretty fried the next day depending on how hard you went.
Nice tattoo on his arm
Should’ve seen it before the coverup.
Thats a lot of hippy crack.
