A current model year prius is ~3,250lbs / ~1,500kg and only gets 54mpg highway - what normal sized cars are you thinking of that will get you 60mpg without hypermiling?
Diesel cars (not trucks) have done 60 highway mpg for 2 decades now. The Prius isn’t a very efficient vehicle on the highway, it’s better suited for urban driving where the electric motor and regen help save a bunch of fuel.
Yes, there absolutely are a small handful of diesel cars that get 60mpg or more stock! And if we’re doing alternate powertrains, my EV gets an equivalent to ~130mpg. But since this conversation is about gasoline it’s not really… relevant.
