No, I got your point. I’m rejecting the comparison because paedophilia isn’t a kink and comparing it to one is harmful.

If you renamed Blender to PUSSYLICKER BOOBINATOR 9000, I’d still use it. It’s a good piece of software for the price of nothing. Before you ask; I’m turbo gay. I’m one of those gays who get turned off by tits.

I do use GIMP from time to time. It’s rare for me to need it. The name doesn’t bother me.

Well, Blender if you work with 3D or using Bforartists (compatible Blender fork with improved and optimized UI), maybe along with MakeHuman (also FOSS) if you use it for games to create NPCs.

I am a little amused that they have forked Blender with the goal of improving the UI, yet the front-page doesn’t showcase it at all. The gallery page is broken. There are some small screenshots in the blogs though.

Edit: I am an idiot and didn’t check the features section.

I downloaded it to see what it’s like. Truthfully I love the initiative, it’s one of these things that is great with FOSS. They decided that they like Blender but want to improve it, so they did. It’s not my thing though, the main offender is the really strong border colours around all UI widgets. Contrast is important, but thin contrasting borders just doesn’t work for me, it muddles the UI up and gets really distracting.

I like how colourful the icons are. Since they look different from what I’m used to it was a little hard to figure out. That’s why I reject the notion of “intuitiveness” in UI design.

I don’t know if I’d say the UI is better. It’s different. I’m sure it’s awesome for some people, and that’s fantastic.

As a professional, I feel like they’re committing some UI sins actually.

These are way too many icons. When it comes to menus you want to limit icon usage to items that need to stand out. When everything stands out, nothing stands out.

Similarly here, what is the purpose of putting the same copy of the same icon next to every single menu item? That’s also just noise.

Well, everybody has their custom workflow and preferences, it may be an alternative for some people and for others not. If you work since years with an app it’s not always good to enter in a new learning curve if it isn’t necessary, even if it offers some advantages.
