What a disappointing and totally uncalled for response from Green, lmao.

Nothing factually wrong with what he said; it’s just insufferable in the context of that conversation. Oozes that “me, an intellectual:” energy.

This is my main problem with most of those rants in the Roiland seasons of Rick and Morty. I love the show and Rick being an asshole works so well for the character dynamic, but the show doesn’t really do it’s due diligence in framing Rick as an actual asshole when he goes on those rants. It’s a big reason why I think the latest season is so good. The writers seem comfortable in dipping back into that well without Roiland and the show does a great job of framing how poisonous and emotionally immature this kind of know-it-all attitude is.

Yeah fuck Green’s gatekeeping ass, some people who love science don’t GET to be grad turkeys because of finances, disability, being the wrong gender or color, etc.

tbf, he didn’t say anything about that, and considering the nowadays’ information availability, you don’t have to be a “grad turkey” to study something at the same depth.

He said “spend their lives on…”, that’s a level of commitment a lot of people simply can’t have.

“A lot of people” don’t commit to the thing, because “A lot of people” aren’t into the thing in the first place. As a very dysfunctional human being myself, who often struggles with bringing themself to do something even in the spheres they love, i still fail to see your logic. You don’t need to spend any amount of time to prove you love something. You don’t need to prove anything in the first place. But do you really love it, if you don’t wanna commit to it, go out of your way to find the opportunity? Could you really say you love sweet buns, if you don’t bake them, don’t buy them, and when you accidentally stumble upon one, you only eat the raisins out of it, throwing out the rest? I don’t think so. There’s nothing wrong with liking only raisins. But saying that you love sweet buns would be very dishonest and misleading of you in that case, wouldn’t it?

Finally, spending your life on something has nothing to do with the shitty paywalled education system.

Is human hair being the same material as nails really considered a flashy fact? That’s about as “tedious” as you can get

I don’t think we should gatekeep people educating themselves, no matter how mundane. Especially if it’s mundane.
