I hate the corpo news. I listened to these asahates try and explain that the night was about centrist Democrats being able to turn solid red districts. People were looking at the message of radical shift away from the current course and its being watered down. NO motherfuckers…this is NOT the time to come to the middle and court the right. This is the time to MAGA up the left and course correct away from that loosing strategy.

They know where their bread is buttered and they suck for it. I don’t want to say it’s time to MAGA up the progressives because, well MAGA are stupid reactionaries that can’t hold a coherent thought in their head but you’re damn right that it’s time for actual action that are FOR the people and not have it watered down by Republicans.

I still think this whole election isn’t about the Democrats at all and the wins from people like El-Sayed the non-DSA DSA, DSA Ashley Herrmann winning, the election of Talarico and Hamilton in Kansas, and the extremely close race with Angie Nixon in Florida. All of these guys won their races not being progressive or liberal or centrist, they won because the Average American just wants change, someone who will listen to them and will vote for anyone who will give them that or at least promise them that because we’re all tired boss.

Again, of course these guys know where their bread is buttered, so they’ll ignore that whole lesson to keep the status quo of corporate money.

Keep voting and donating to Progressives, three decades of voting and I’m loving the changes that I’ve donated and volunteered for almost two decades taking hold.

    Subtitle:

Tuesday’s election results demolished the conventional wisdom that Democrats need to run cautious, corporate-friendly centrists to win in purple and red states.

The voting members of the DNC recognized that after the 2024 election…

That’s why they pivoted to Martin as chair, and why trying to win every race and supporting everyone that made it thru fair primaries paid off.

Like, Martin literally spent a decade running Minnesota, where over and over he saw the best way to turn a purple/red state blue, was progressive candidates.

It’s really getting old that people don’t realize the party is essentially the chair, and the only thing this chair wants more than charismatic progressives, is fair primaries.

As a Minnesotan I have been so happy with the DFL here. I was so happy when he hit the national spot. Running progressive and focusing on pocketbook issues instead of playing catch-up against whatever cultural issue the Republicans want to play. You can still support minorities but stay on message of helping everyone

Logically it makes sense too; Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

If people basic needs aren’t met, it’s hard to care about anything (or anyone) else.

Meet everyone’s basic needs, and we stop the infighting. That’s the real reason the oligarchs want to gut social safety nets. If we’re not afraid for ourselves, we’ll start caring about others.

If we all start caring about others and can plan past the next pay check, suddenly everyone realizes billionaires are the problem.

I saw another post about him being a kingmaker and that’s just delusional.

Except for the absolute validity of it. He picked the winners. In the primary. And faced off INCREDIBLE resistance. And he worked to his picks the winners. And then they won.

Its delusional to not recognize them as kingmaker. Youʻll never stop hearing about them, from now until theyʻre as old as that crypt-keeper James Carville.

To the losers downvoting this: You blue/red MAGAs, American Exceptionalist Imperialistic Terrorists, Zionists, Jeffrey Epstein Class supporters, warmongers with stocks in “National Defense” companies, your time is over. You cannot dupe people online with your shit anymore. Nobody is buying it.

You wish you had as much motion as him. You literally do over 30+ propaganda comments in this site every day, and they all failed anyway. He educates people for 8hrs everyday, you will never be as impactful as him. He’s a political commentator first by the way. He will always be a better human being than you. He literally platformed almost every candidate you saw win last night; only Angie Nixon lost. He platformed them, presented them to over 30,000+ live viewers (and hundreds thousands more in YouTube), got them a lot of money, door-knockers, phone-callers and more. You did nothing but try to stall his progress, because you are a corpo shill.

You likely have stocks in companies like Lockheed Martin, Daniel Defense, General Electric, or gun manufacturers like Colt and Smith and so on. You literally supported people like Hayley Stevens and Fetterman. Hasan Piker fucked your bag and you hate it, but you cannot openly insult him because he is what the people actually wanted. Not you. 🤏🏿🫵🏿😂🤡

You’re also someone who doesn’t give a fuck about the Iron River which is costing my country, Mexico, over 30,000+ innocent people every year. All those 200,000+ firearms you sell to the cartels and no one else also pours down to South America, and we know you do the same to the Middle East and Africa. Over 30,000+ permanently traumatized families every year, who then try to survive by moving to the USA, and what do you do? You punish them again. You treat them like animals after exploiting them and claiming credit for their hard work like you once boasted about the USA “giving a lot of free food to poor countries through USAID”. Food you stole from us through exploitation and fear.

You make a lot of profit off that, hence the reason nobody will ever see you replying to something like this. Your job here in Lemmy is to try and continue American Exceptionalism. You still want the USA to be “the World Police” when no one in the world wants that shit anymore.

Hah, no. We’ll have the year of the Linux desktop before that ever happens. Leftist candidates won because the Democrats were so strongly favored that even weak candidates won, but the leftists did worse than a generic Democrat would have done.

El-Sayed, for example, won Michigan 52.5 to 45.5 as of the current count. Meanwhile the Democratic candidate for governor Jocelyn Benson won 54.5 to 43.7. There were enough people voting for her but not for him to swing a normal election to the Republicans.

El-Sayed with 2,497,852 and Benson with 2,591,316 as of right now. I haven’t added up all the other candidates but according to the votes to percentage ratios, about the same number of people voted in each contest.

        2,497,852 / 52.52 = 47,560

        2,591,316 / 54.54 = 47,512

Two things to counter that argument. First, the advertising blitz against Abdul El-Sayed was insane. I have never seen so many attack ads, and a lot of money was spent in the primary and the general to bury Abdul. By contrast Benson barely got mentioned.

Second, the John James factor. This is John James third statewide office run, and third loss. He hasn’t come within 100k of winning. Rogers lost to Slotkin by only ~30k

Being the sort of candidate who motivates special interests to spend a fortune trying to stop you from getting elected makes you a weaker candidate, if all else is equal, where “weaker” here is referring to electability rather than ideology or the preferences of a Platonic ideal public.

Okay, I don’t really agree that having special interests spend against you makes you a weak candidate. Especially when that money doesn’t lead to your loss. If someone puts a 5 foot high hurdle in front of you, you are not weaker if you fail to clear it by the same margin as the runner next to you clears their 3 foot hurdle.

In fact going into the next race without knowing what the hurdle height will be, I’m more likely to pick the runner who cleared 5 feet. You can’t rely on your positions not attracting outside opponents, but you can rely on conservatives to make accomplishing anything good into a fight. I would rather have candidates ready for that fight than ones who are trying to avoid it by triangulating their positions to not offend conservatives.

It makes the candidate weaker than he would otherwise be if everything else was equal, but you’re right that a candidate opposed by special interests can overall be stronger than a candidate not opposed by them. My point is just that you can’t judge a candidate’s strength or weakness as something independent of those attack ads.

Well since the attack ads were primarily focused on his name, religion, and ethnicity, I don’t think we should accept that as a rationale. I found myself unable to skip them when they played, and holy shit were they bad. His ability to attract those attack ads was almost entirely because he offended AIPAC and because he is Muslim. They tried some other tactics early on (Medicare, ‘fake doctor’, etc), but the last few weeks has been almost nothing but attacks on his identity.
