A win for Democrat Catelin Drey over far-right Christopher Prosch would hamstring the state’s Republican governor
He has compared abortion access to the Holocaust and pushed conspiracy theories about the 9/11 terrorist attacks, 2020 presidential election and climate crisis. Christopher Prosch is betting that Maga still rules in the US heartland.
On Tuesday, the far-right Republican will take on Democrat Catelin Drey in a special general election for Iowa state senate district 1 after the previous incumbent, Republican Rocky De Witt, died in June.
A victory for Drey would break Republicans’ supermajority in the state senate and deny governor Kim Reynolds the ability to stack agencies and courts with Maga loyalists. It would also give Democrats fresh hope that a blue wave is forming before next year’s midterm elections.
The same blue wave as the 2024 elections? Yeah, I’ll believe it when voters actually go out and vote.
Remember back in 2018 the Republicans didn’t do particularly well, same thing in 2022 they did notably worse. It seems like as a general trend Trump has a very notable down ballot effect but if he isn’t on the ballot Republicans don’t do particularly well.
Though I could be proven completely wrong, it’s happened in the past it’ll happen in the future. Hell if I’m lucky I may be proven wrong via the Federal government pulling a Soviet Union circa 26 December 1991.
Haha nope. Now that this has happened the midterms will be locked down even tighter.
Its officially hopium season. How festive
Oh cripes…
Just no. One word, Tuberville.
A single win in a special election in a Red state means nothing and we’ve been shown this time and time again. It’s great that she won, enjoy the win but there is no blue wave coming, not with this crappy party.
I don’t even think the blatant gerrymandering and election fraud attempts will be enough.
