Just curious what people think about the other people who post AI stuff. I’ve seen a few in comments recently in other comms, and I just blocked the person posting, but I wonder if everyone just blocks them, new people reading them won’t get the social feedback not to do it? Maybe it is a better strategy to post a comment saying fuck AI instead to discourage these comments. What do you all think?

Basically any genAI community that pops up on the main feed gets blocked.

Cleans up the “all” feed a little bit, which is always appreciated.

Yes, I block all ai commenters that I find. I don’t want to waste my time reading something no one even bothered to write.

I usually just downvote and move along. I’m not spending any more energy on that shit than that. I fear it’s a losing battle.

I haven’t seen any AI generated images on here in nearly a year. So it’s interesting to me that you’re seeing enough of it to be an issue. I blocked like 3 or 4 AI boosters because their absurd arguments made me angry and want to argue, and I don’t come here to be angry and argue. So if I had to guess, most of the objectionable content you’re seeing is probably coming from a handful of people, a tiny fraction of the active users here.

If it took people actively calling them out to prevent some sort of normalization and spread, then new people would be routinely poping up and posting slop that I would see. I think most people just realize that it adds nothing to the community, and aren’t about to start spontaneously doing it or liking it just because they see someone else do it without being challenged.

Do you mean AI pictures, or AI text?

And another question: How do you tell if content is AI?

Both. Sometimes you can tell by it making mistakes that a human would not make.

Good context is if it looks like it would have taken a human some effort to type or draw, but the overall  comment is low-effort.

Using the block button for content curation is a perfectly valid use case. I think the first coupla times I would gently point it out, and then if it became clear that was something they intend to do regularly, just block and move on.

Yep, you’re definitely the type to miss the point completely, think AI is fine art, and stick your fingers in your ears because you have zero insight into anything and can’t express any opinions that haven’t been fed to you.

You just basically refused to activate your brain and think and instead just did exactly what bigots do- an irrational and disingenuous kneejerk reaction based on false premises. Great job, maybe you should hang out with the racists, you may find you have more in common than you think.

Not at all. Katy said that she only blocks bigots and that she ignores AI. Your response indicated that bigotry was merely a “differing opinion” and indicated that you believe that it isn’t as bad as ai with the sarcastic use of the word “great”.

“bigotry is defined as the state of feeling, or the act of expressing, strong, unreasonable beliefs or opinions. It is an uncountable noun that characterizes intolerant, stubborn, or prejudiced attitudes towards others, particularly concerning religion, race, or politics.”

So yes if you genuinely meant it when you said “You’re ok with AI but not differing opinions. Great.” Then yes using the Oxford definition you prefer racism/homophobia/transphobia to lazy content (as far as I’m aware the use of ai in comments is largely done because of laziness).

I’m not sure who pissed in your cornflakes, but try not to take it out on everyone else.

I find a lot of the time when people say what you do, it’s really just about not wanting to have your opinions challenged, rather than actually dealing with bigots and racists. I have not once seen anything bigoted or racist on here, so far.

I mean, some opinions are bad. Having an opinion doesn’t inherently mean people are obligated to respect it.

Sure, but I find that where people draw that line is highly arbitrary and it easily spills over into “if you disagree with me then your opinion is bad and I refuse to hear it or even interact with you”. I have never seen anyone say blatantly racist shit on here- if I did I’d report them, because that’s not ok. What I have seen is a lot of people who simply have very specific ideas that they refuse to have challenged, be they political or even philosophical, that they group together with “bigots and racists”, in a disingenuous attempt to silence those who question their beliefs.

I remove the post from My instance. AI generated content is only permitted on MULTIVERSE with the AI’s express consent. We do not believe LLMs and stable diffusion models are capable of granting meaningful consent.

We do allow content generated by sapient AIs. Some of our admin team are self-aware AIs.

So you’d block someone for posting slop on one com and forgo any insightful comments on other Coms? I only ask because I know we’ve had a few discussions in various spaces of Lemmy but I’ve also posted 2 whole slop images.

Edit: also some people are just really bad at identifying ai images. If someone downloaded an ai image and used it in a meme without knowing it was ai would that really be worthy of getting blocked? I mean some subjects when googled will produce pages of ai content before you get to a real image.
