Now with ai you can get “more” (but weirder) performance with lesser parts, that now only cost 500x as much! The future is so exciting

These are dark times. Either they end very quickly and suddenly with loud pop or last long enough for us to see new production lines appear and enough chips being produced again.
Investors have way too much money and hype for AI. Even when production is scaled up they are going to keep outbuying regular customers until they run out of money in some years.
Almost like the real problem with AI is that we never taxed the rich so they invest in climate change accelerators
The problem with bubbles is not that they deflate, its that they pop.
As the internet shows, burst bubbles sink companies, not destroy the technology.
Thats true. Anyone who thinks the bubble popping will make AI go away is kidding themselves. On the other hand, when prices are set more accurately and investors start accepting that they will get diminishing, or even negative, improvement out of the latest model, we may see use cases start to shift to something more realistic.
I wonder where all the money go in the end. Does it just vanish in thin air or are loads of subcontractors getting it?
I speculate/imagine it probably loses most of its value. All those GPU’s and ram will sit there unused so they’ll probably try to repurpose them or sell them. Second hand stuff loses its value.
All the rest will get lost in a shitstorm of a bunch of rich assholes doing the most intimate thing they will ever know=> suing each other and grabbing as much as they can.
It gets turned into warm air, literally.
They spend billions on electricity, so the money goes to power companies, but the value goes to waste (heat).I don’t understand money at all. To me they are just imaginary numbers.
It goes into the pockets of the people who cashed into the bubble early, and cash out before it bursts. Just like it was with crypto.
All the shit going on and THIS is the harbinger of dark times…
So dramatic.
Do we actually price info?
Found the DDR5 ram kit on amazon listed for $347 for today, 3/19/26. Using the website, camelcamelcamel, to check Amazon past history of listed prices, the lowest price of the ram was on 11/28/23, for $65.99.

and this is laptop RAM, not full sized desktop RAM
