Hey all. I’m the original creator of this graphic. Just wanted to note that the skull and bones I used is from an actual pirate flag from the 19th century. Just a fun fact.

Never have. Never will.
I remember that day of the “general strike” where the simple idea was to not spend any money on big corps. I got confused, because to me, that’s a 365-day-a-year lifestyle thing for me.
Maybe I’m lucky that I don’t have lifestyle needs like pet food, baby supplies, etc, and markets have been cornered there. But there’s plenty of forms of entertainment and leisure without giving it to Disney or Amazon and the like.
Being a pirate is what makes you free. All hail communism.
Is there any type of post that doesn’t belong in a shitposting community? Because I know some people have very strong opinions about what shitposting is around here. And personally, I don’t think this fits. But maybe shitposting is meant to just be a pure miscellaneous grab bag of anything? Yes, I read the community rules which say “everything goes”, but the reality of what is posted seems to suggest a different spirit of the law.
This is way too wholesome to be a shitpost.
Nah let the votes decide. Block people who consistently post what you don’t want to see. You can make your own experience and everyone gets the one they want
Its tricky because I don’t dislike this post, but I do feel like posts should be in the appropriate comms. And I’m just legitimately unclear on what belongs here. I guess the idea is just whatever people post?
Pretty much. C/lemmyshitpost kind of goes through moods to so if you’re not liking something give it a month. There was a no-politics meta for a while, right now we’re kind of horny, maybe we’ll get a crime wave 🏴☠️ here going forward. We also see sporadic aneurism posting and that’s always exciting.
Check out TheShitPostOffice and shitpost@piefed for some more traditional material

If only the masses had the will to fight their own subjugation.
Ah, back to spreading nihilism again, I see. I’ll share the same thing I said last time:
I understand how you feel, but we actually do have the power to change our world. We need to first recognize that something needs to be done, build a popular consensus, network and build connections with like-minded people, and start a real movement for change.
Electoralism has not solved our problems in the past, and it won’t do so in the future. At best, it is harm prevention, and at worst, it’s a distraction from more effective efforts. I encourage people to vote for the candidates they feel best, but to be aware that it’s not a real, long term solution. It’s always just the best of two terrible candidates, both of whom ultimately serve the ruling class.
The problems we have did not start and will not end with Trump, they are in the fundamental roots of our society, and the road to change our society is a long and difficult one, but it is a journey we have to undertake. We are going to have to act if we want to live in a better world. Simply giving in to nihlism is not an option.
You have no actual plan other than a plea to “try”. Funny that you criticize the nihilist’s lack of trying but not the general population’s. Even though both result in the same inaction. Atleast the nihilist usually once cared, unlike the masses who can’t be bothered to ever care. Good luck though. Keep pleading with the wall of indifference, laziness and self-interest that keeps people from ever taking group action.
I am a union rep and organizer, I have a front row seat to the movement which is building and growing every day.
Everything you say is rationalization. If change is impossible, that lets you justify your own inaction.
The indifference, laziness and self-interest you perceive is just your own reflection staring back at you.
If you’re a union rep and organizer then you should know better. Unions have been dying for 60 years and only came into existence because people were so poorly treated they were willing to fight, and possibly die, as some did, instead of labour. Their bargaining position was also considerably stronger, not having to compete against a world labour market or the viability of moving production to other nations.
The extremity of the situation provoked action, organizing only facilitated, it didn’t provoke it. You are doing a significant amount of rationalizing on your end. Change isn’t impossible, it happens all the time, but intentional change through group effort is not caused by eager organizers who just believe enough. People en masse must be provoked to action by circumstance.
There is a habitually lying, child rapist, conman and fraud, whose been granted legally immunity to violate the constitution and all laws, twice elected, and sitting in the White House, supported by the entire GOP and half the nation. People can’t seem to figure out they should act to deal with that. Good ideas and wise choices don’t make people act, desperation, necessity and self-interest do. Circumstances do. That’s why propaganda and distractions work so well, they are the circumstances.
Nihilism and realism look the same to an optimist. That’s you right now. Rationalizing away observed history to retain your will to act because you can’t face a harsh truth about the disappointment and inefficacy of convincing mass behavior out of people.

FTFY

It goes without saying that boycotts by themselves are an ineffective system of effecting change, and that everyone who wants to fight against fascism must take further action.
I encourage everyone to get involved in local activist efforts, join or form a union, join the IWW, read through an anarchist FAQ, get involved in protests, vote for the most progressive candidates possible including in primaries, and use every possible tool and avenue of resistance at your disposal, both legal and illegal.
Your link is broken btw
Don’t stop there! Replace all Big Tech apps:
I like to point people to privacyguides.org and fmhy.net instead. Best to prioritize open source to avoid inevitable enshittification wherever possible.
I would go to the high seas but I don’t know where to start. I used to visit the high seas often about 10 years ago. But now. Shrugs shoulders.
qbittorrent, use the search tab
I’d also recommend the Megathread from the !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com community: https://wiki.dbzer0.com/piracy/megathread/
Quick start guide:
- VPN, my recommendation: mullvadVPN. (You need this, because copyright trolls look for easy targets, such as people having their real IP exposed. You don’t want to be that, they won’t fight with the VPNs hosting partner, then with the VPN company, then with your ISP, just to get to you, they only extort people they can reach directly.)
- Download qBittorrent (FOSS) and install ALL search plugins
- Activate your VPN and search with the integrated search function, it will look through all sites you installed plugins for and present them to you directly in the programme.
- Enjoy a collection of TV and movies you actually own.
There is a setting to bind qbittorrent to your vpn. PLEASE use this as using it without accidentally could get you in trouble. The binding is a last resort safety mechanism to prevent it from even working if the vpn is off.
I keep hearing conflicting info on mullvard and sailing, do they block port forwarding? Which may affect seeding to some places? Like private… sailing seas? I am a bit unsure how this works, but if I am sailing for linux distros, I want to be able to seed them.
Mullvad does in fact block port forwarding. If it is absolutely required (it is if you want to be able to connect to the most people) then you should look into possibly a seed box or another reputable vpn.
Mind you, it will work without port forwarding but not as well with it.
For mullvad, I can tell you from experience, it works perfectly well.
The best way to start is to visit fmhy just search it on the web. Learn and be a pirate sail the seas and keep information to yourself and not spread out your gold to the public like a true pirate
Main thing is to know if your ISP cares or not. Mine does, so I use a vpn. You can set qbittorrent to only use the vpn so if it gets turned off then just nothing will download.
You can do that on windows just downloading something like qbittorrent and mullvad vpn. You can also set them up in docker containers if you are familiar with that. It allows you to have the vpn only affect qbittorrent rather than your whole PC.
I do all of this on linux as well but had originally set it up on windows.
But where from?
10 years ago it was just pirate bay
That still exists. I like 1337x.to as well.
Visit fmhy it will give you a comphrehensive guide
Additionally to the other answers, take a look at stremio with Torrentio. A few of my friends use it (I’m using a private tracker), it’s basically as convenient as using Netflix AFAICS.
Note that a VPN might be required to avoid getting fined in some countries as stremio is basically simply torrenting videos sequentially and simultaneously playing them, and torrent is often monitored by authorities
Yeah obviously, that’s why I said additionally to the other answers.
No problem, I just wanted to clarify to avoid any issues, as I know a few non tech literate people who thought they would be safe since it’s not the kind of torrent app they were used to
I can’t pirate no harder, a terabyte a week I’m downloading! Ive been downloaded from dawn to dusk!
Stop making goddamned excuses and just get it done. All of it.
Maybe you could pirate From Dusk Till Dawn next? :p
We got pirated pussy!
Or you could ignore those services and watch indie stuff instead and pay for those directly
There’s art out there that’s worth buying. You don’t have to pirate anything
Also, who cares if you don’t see the latest prequel or sequel or reboot or preboot or requel by Disney? Be proudly out of the loop
If you don’t watch big streamers’ releases at all, you give them even less power. And if you buy indie, you give their competition power. You break the monopoly.
This is the ideal and one of the reasons I watched Youtube in the first place. I’ve found amazing stuff over time, like Veritasium, but I miss oldschool scripted media. Especially calmer stuff with fewer cuts. So much modern cinema is too fast.
If anyone has any recommendations for indies, I’d love to hear them.
watch indie stuff instead
Indie ≠ comparable. Indie ≠ good. I’m not going to watch something BECAUSE it’s indie. Am I misunderstanding?
Be careful with what you are watching in the next few years. Hollywood gave itself a diverse face in the last few years. Put in black actors, had some strong women in lead roles, had some gay characters and so on. I’m afraid that we will see some movies pushing hart right MAGA topics in the next time. Movies that are pushing for traditional gender roles, have gay people as evil masterminds, immigrants as criminals and so on. We already saw that with all those movies with evil arab guys in the bush era. Hollywood was taken over by Trump’s tech billionaires, you will see this turn it in the media you are watching. That will influence you and maybe you shouldn’t watch such stuff
Coming soon to a movie theatre near you. And every streaming service. And as an unskipable 3hr 30min ad on Youtube. And as part of the start-up routine of Windows 12.
INT. FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE - DAY
JOHN RAMBO
“Cap, these woke, gay immigrants want to stop generative AI. We have to stop them.”BATMAN
“Rambo’s right, and these disabled lesbian Democrat voters will stop at nothing. They must be detained, processed and, where necessary - which is always - terminated.”INDIANA JONES
“Agreed, Batman. We absolutely have to protect our billionaires’ wealth and their way of life. We’ve got might on our side. I know Hunt, McClane, and Reacher are in and, all the way from across the pond, so is Bond. And Harry Potter. But do we have Bourne and Skywalker?”CYBERDYNE SYSTEMS MODEL 101 [AKA THE TERMINATOR]
“Affirmative. Both have answered the call! And we have Toretto and Blade.”HANNIBAL LECTER
“Wait. Toretto and Blade are both… un-white.”have gay people as evil masterminds
<Looks at current tech billionaires>
Being gay doesn’t stop you from being evil.
We’ll get a J6 biopic with the finalized version the self-myth the regime wants to cement.
Birth of a Nation 2: Electric Boogaloo
This is true, but the bigger threat I see is the mainstream news media and social media, as the Ellison media empire expands it continues to encompass more and more news channels, it already contains CBS and TikTok, with the upcoming merger it’ll also include CNN. Other Trump supporters include Jeff Bezos who owns the Washington Post and Elon Musk who owns Twitter.
As an European, my mindset for this year has been “its amoral to not pirate American media”
This but I’m Australian and it’s called “Reparations for Pine Gap”
Me too. Fuck usa. No money for them
I feel the same about all media. I’m doing my part to hasten the collapse of capitalism by keeping my spending to an absolute minimum, pirating everything, buying second hand where possible, and avoiding eating out or ordering takeout as much as possible.
I understand everything, except the eating out. I mean, I don’t do it because I don’t have the money, but aren’t moet restaurants and takeout places local?
I don’t necessarily boycott businesses just to achieve some higher purpose like beating fascism away or whatever- most of the time it’s cuz I know the owner(s) are assholes to their workers. Fuck those guys. Plus, most food served outside is inferior to the one I make at home, so not much of value is lost.
Being local doesn’t magically make something good, though. Everything is local to somewhere.
My problem is with capitalism itself, not specifically American businesses or big businesses or whatever. Small business owners are a major part of the economy. If the small business owners aren’t feeling the pain of capitalism too, they do not have incentive to join the rest of the working class as part of a social revolution.
How does capitalism inevitably lead to fascism?
Basically, the issue with capitalism is that the more wealth you have, the easier it is for you to make more money. And since money can be used to buy goods, services and influence, there is always a way to use money to gain more political and social power. With that political and social power, you can push society and the legal system in the direction you want to go. So you can use your wealth to gain power, and then you can use your power to change laws and society so that you can make even more wealth and power. It’s a positive feedback loop.
Obviously, though, if the billionaires and ruling class are accumulating more and more of our society’s wealth, that inevitably means that there’s less for everyone else to go around - therefore, working class people feel poorer and poorer. Meanwhile, the economy is going absolutely great for rich people, so inflation continues to go up - everything gets more expensive, but wages don’t increase. The wealthy just keep more and more of the wealth for themselves. To accumulate more and more wealth, they change the laws so that they can avoid paying taxes, so public services collapse. Politicians are lobbied to ensure that public funds are diverted away from where it is most needed - housing, healthcare, transportation, infrastructure - and instead into industries where their class interests most benefit from it, such as weapons manufacturing and extractive industries such as fossil fuels and mining.
The working class are bound to notice that their lives are getting shittier and shittier, and if that situation is left unchecked, the working class would realize that the ruling class are fucking them over, rise up, and overthrow their rulers. Obviously, the ruling class need to do something about this, but there’s no solution that the ruling class can offer. They’re causing all of the problems, to fix them they’d have to give up some of their wealth and power - and that’s not something they’re going to do. So they need to find someone else to blame the problems we have in society on. Unfortunately, though, no matter who they blame the problems on, and no matter what they do to “fix” it, the issue will continue to persist, because the material conditions underlying the issues are, very intentionally, never addressed.
So, the conundrum returns: The ruling class said that minority A caused all of the problems, minority A is persecuted and oppressed, but society doesn’t actually get any better. Either the problem wasn’t minority A, or minority A just hasn’t been oppressed enough yet. So the ruling class can either escalate the oppression, or they can shift the focus to another minority group. The division continues to escalate in terms of how vitriolic and extreme it is, and it also continues to divide the working class into smaller and smaller groups.
To get the working class to buy into this hateful message, they need to take advantage of our worst instincts, and one of those instincts is the in-group bias. The majority are manipulated into being suspicious, then intolerant, then hateful, then violent, then genocidal, towards whatever the targeted minority of the day is. Anything that can be used to divide the working class - sexuality, nationality, immigration status, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, age, all of these will be used as wedges to keep the working class split apart and not working together, because they know that if the working class actually unite against them, they are completely and truly fucked.
That’s exactly how fascism manifests. It’s because it’s possible for people to accumulate power through wealth. This is why capitalism must be abolished. If we do not abolish capitalism, fascism will always return. It’s just a matter of time.
So do you grow your own food and harvest your own electricity and smelt you own ore to make your own electronic devices to post on the internet that you’re accessing via your own isp?
“Small business owners” feels like an arbitrary line. Sure, there’s those that are doing it because they’re bootlickers and capitalists, but restaurants are terrible investments. If you’re avoiding chains and conglomerates, you’re more likely to be supporting a comrade who is trying to survive in a capitalist country. This is not an ACAB situation. There are employee owned small businesses and work places that treat workers fairly.
As I said, I just do everything I can to minimize spending, because spending keeps the economy afloat. Cooking my own food is just cheaper, and thus reduces spending overall. You don’t need to follow my example if you disagree, that’s totally fine, do what you feel is right.
And here I am not realizing that food counts as media.
Notice the period/full stop between the words “media” and “I’m”? That denotes the end of one sentence, and the beginning of another, which is a helpful clue that those two things I wrote are seperate thoughts.
Na too late. My mind is already blown and creating a new reality where food is media. I like this new world and don’t intend to leave.
Fair enough, I suppose from a certain perspective you could argue that it is - especially if you make a smiley face with breakfast food. Or get one of those toasters that makes Jesus appear on a slice of toast.
media, used to store, transmit, and deliver information.
food == nutrition + dna. nutrition is the various vitamins, nutrients, fats and enzymes the body needs to maintain cellular function and repair.
food == a media for delivering nutrition and DNA information to the human body. 😵💫
