Completely disingenuous article claiming at first that Mamdani is unpopular outside of NYC followed by stats that show that many Americans don’t even have an opinion on him.
Guess what?! Not many people in Missouri or California are going to give a damn about a local election in another state!
For starters, Mamdani is clearly not popular outside of New York City.
A Siena College poll this week showed statewide New York voters disliked him 37%-28% – and that’s in a left-leaning state.
A recent Yahoo News-YouGov poll, meanwhile, showed a relatively similar verdict among Americans nationwide: 31%-22% negative.
While those aren’t good numbers, they don’t exactly suggest he’s a pariah who could be used effectively as a bogeyman on the national stage – at least yet. In the national survey, 46% didn’t even have an opinion of the Democratic mayoral nominee, underscoring the room that exists for him to define himself — or be defined by others. (Even in New York, 34% of voters didn’t have an opinion about him.)
Literally a Missourian here cheering for him. And a little low key jealous they are getting this opportunity.
I’m sorry. I don’t mean to paint everyone with that brush, but yeah. Gotta say, some of the shit coming from your govenor and state congress is… uhmm
Well. About as crazy as from our GOP up here.
Haha honestly. I didn’t really even read the second paragraph well. No worries.
Though while many here are too indoctrinated and misinformed to ever consider voting for a Democrat. Hell many never even have had democrats running for county and local offices. So I don’t blame them for being skeptical only ever seeing Democrats showing up for statewide office. But don’t mistake that for love of Republicans.
If there were organized local support and recruiting pushing recognized viable local candidates in many of these small towns. Democrats and Republicans would take notice. There definitely are a few wild dumbasses everywhere that are solid Trump fans. But even plenty who vote Republican feel embarrassed by the party. Just slightly less abandoned by it. Because they at least make the superficial effort to seem like they’re interested where Democrats have largely written the state off.
There is certainly an information war going on.
My grandma lives in springfield and believes that Minneapolis (and Saint Paul) are burnt out warzones over run with gangs. Even though I took her on a tour last time she was up. (it held for a few months or so?) she will only get her news from cable news, and like, Fox is the least partisan she gets access to.
And it needs to be said Fox News is hyperpartisan LOL. Just to drive your point home further. Fortunately I was able to get my parents out of the cable racket. Not that they can’t get the same misinformation elsewhere. But it’s great to not have a one stop sewage dump in your home.
We did the same for my mother’s step mother under the cover of her retirement funds running low and cable being costly. She loved fox news. Would have it on all the time when we were over. I would go on walks to keep from snapping and constantly correcting everything on it. She still finds stuff from time to time now. But it’s usually AI slop voice story time on YouTube. But she has improved.
Part of it is the incessant repetition. Even seeing something with your own eyes. If everyone around you disagrees eventually you doubt yourself. Unless is something you encounter daily to break the spell.
