Yeah pokemon gets me still. I played from childhood into my early 20s, but eventually when the games changed to a more 3D open world concept it lost me. It just didn’t feel right anymore.
Loved legends of Arceus, so it’s not just the open world concept. It’s just something about that transition killed the games for me. They just lost something.
I feel the same way. It’s not 3D Pokemon in general that feels wrong, it’s just something about the mainline games that made me lose interest in them after they went 3D. I don’t know what it is, though, and it’s really hard to describe. Maybe it really is the connection between pixel graphics and happy memories.
I think in many ways I miss the linear progression of the games. Going into buildings even. It’s like somehow the world both feels more alive and dead all at the same time
I got a retro handheld emulator and personally as someone who’s cleared a few GBA games from back in the day what I really like is the instant feedback and quick response of gba games.
No waiting for stupid animations, no annoying repeating voiclines/quips every 3 seconds.
I tend to attribute it to pokemon, but really pixel graphics games in general
