Do not listen to the comments trying to discourage this. Enough letters, phone calls, faxes do get attention and the threat of losing any “campaign” dollars terrifies these people.
That opening paragraph is such a murder by words that Republicans are already saying the author is trans.

Yes, the actual representative will never read this and as far as a response goes, you will get an insulting patronizing pre-written letter or just completely ignored. However, some intern or bot should categorize your letter and add it to a report shown to the representative.
By contacting your reps, at the very least, you can be sure that:
- You are doing something and exercising one of the tools you’ve been given to fight this hellscape, which is more than 99%+ of people do.
- Your rep will have to ignore even more signs about how much of a piece of shit they are.
I highly recommend contacting your reps as frequently as possible. Resistbot is a great tool that makes writing your reps as easy as sending a text message. There’s no need to spend a ton of time writing these letters, they’re being categorized, not read. So, you can literally write and send a letter to your reps in less than one minute. I think their Telegram bot costs them less than SMS, so I’d recommend using that.
That is a really good letter. Compelling opening, simple, clearly stated arguments.
There is only a very small chance that a staffer will read the whole thing. But it’s worth sending even though there’s no chance chuck will hear any details beyond maybe “Mamdani letters are up/down X from last week”
Always explicitly request a response.
I’m sure one of his many assistants will happily wipe his ass with your letter right before never showing it to Schumer and sending you back a generic response that they send to everyone that doesn’t address any of your points.
Mine would just be like, “Hey Chuck, KYS.”
At least a phone call means that you have active confirmation that someone actually heard your voice. It doesn’t necessarily mean the aide will pass it on, but at least another human got the message.
It’s a shame that computers can’t handle formatted text documents. Poor SOBs like this have no choice but to take a photo of a printout. Maybe someday our technology will improve.

I donate to my local food bank because hungry people are angry people, but in theory, well fed people with less desperation who know their neighbors will look out for them can probably be reasoned with.
I also donate to informational sources I care about that combat misinformation, like PBS, Wikipedia, and NPR.
This person is doing something. If you feel it’s not enough, please let us know what you’ve been doing to help, and what we should be doing instead.
