Considering how common back problems are I think school gym classes should focus on teaching safe lifting techniques (for moving furniture, appliances, etc) and doing exercises that strengthen back muscles.
Cardio is good too of course, but I think people would see more benefit in the long run from a strong back and good lifting technique.
You’d probably have to have more stringent requirements for gym teachers if you did this though.

Same. It only took me a few weeks of consistent lifting to make an old shoulder injury feel so much better.
