It’s a crime to deface currency in order to change its value. You can write messages on a dollar bill, you just can’t try to make it look like it’s more than a dollar.
So putting Trump’s face on a coin is illegal, because it drops the value tremendously.
Yep. I made jewelry out of coins for decades and had to explain that often - it’s not illegal unless you intend to present it as some currency it’s not originally. Like you have to intend to do some fraud. Just decorating or transforming coins or paper currency alone won’t get you jailed or fined, unless they’ve recently passed some new draconian laws. Which I wouldn’t be shocked by.
