I don’t propagandise for Russia, or ‘demand’ anything from Europe. But I’m completely against rising the military spending, with my money at least, the supporters can open a gofundme and dump all their savings in it if they want. If the oop knew something about European history or the current socio-political landscape they would know that their own armed forces are the bigger ‘real security risk’ for most European countries.
I also hope all these spend-risers, and their kids, are the first to enlist and volunteer for the front lines.
None of this neighbours were in NATO or the EU. European military budgets are alright, and Russia is in no way a threat. Ukraine (which I’m in favour to support with arms, intelligence, money… or whatever they need) is giving them some hell with just a tiny fraction of the equipment and personnel.
At my workplace we have them eurofighters flying overhead every weekday (today I’ve seen also a chinook, and one of those massive transport planes with four propellers) burning my tax euros. I think they have plenty of money already. We could send those fighter right now to guard the airspace near Ukraine and Belarus that has been violated several times, I’ll support that. But stop already with the bootlicking and warmongering, please.
Look, whether Russia actually tries attacking a NATO member or not depends on NATO’s ability to show it is unified and well prepared.
Russia is already testing our ability to defend ourselves. They regularily violate our airspace on purpose to see how long it takes for our response. They drop drones in the Baltic, fly a squadron of fighters into Estonia. They keep sabotaging and terrorising in NATO. They keep threatening us with nukes if we don’t immidiatly stop supplying arms to Ukraine.
This is how they started in Ukraine prior to 2014’s incursion of “little green men”.
If we aren’t ready, then I fear that a few “little green men” have their summer vacation in Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania.
NATO doesn’t fear an outright attack. It fears a small scale attack by a Russia that believes we lack the cohesion and means to properly respond. One such small incursion would need to be properly met, that is why NATO needs to be well prepared.
