The point though is that at one point Finland was allied with the Nazis against the Soviet Union, that’s the difference. That’s not to entirely absolve the Soviet Union invading Finland, but either way Finland was an ally of the Nazis for at least a point.
The point of the original comment in the thread though is that Finland also can’t be entirely absolved of allying with the Nazis just because they were at war with the Soviet Union.
Domestic crimes against humanity aside, both the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany were waging offensive war in Europe before all this. In fact, they had made a secret deal about USSR getting finland before the alliance of finland and germany.
To be clear I’m not defending the Soviet Union invading Finland, I’m an anarchist so I only really like the Soviet Union a tiny bit more than I do the US during the same period (which isn’t saying much because of how much I hate the US). I’m just also agreeing that Finland did ally with the Nazis, which is a stain on their history.

I don’t know what to make of that. On the one hand, is a stain on Finland’s history, on the other hand, being invaded by a superpower 30x+ of your size does compromise your ability to act by your principles.
Yeah but people are not saying fighting for the US in WWII was the same as fighting for Nazi Germany because both had concentration camps.
