I had a similar situation at the community college I attend, but instead of a peacock, it was a turkey. One was banging on a nearby glass door and the windows next to them. It was annoying more than anything.
Been in places with turkeys around and they totally do that. More importantly, they chuckle nervously at loud noises and a group of them together sound like a low-energy laugh track. It pairs well with Seinfeld bits.

I mean, wild turkeys are pretty common in some areas. Depends where you were I suppose.
