If you want fantasy speaking to a young audience I recommend The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett, and if you like it the rest of the Tiffany Aching series

Alternatively I’ve heard good things about The Wizards of Earthsea by Ursula K LeGuinn (I’ve only read her sci fi, which while famously good isn’t in any way a replacement for Harry Potter)
