The mistake was one thing. The refusal to admit it and then doubling down by everyone on the right says everything. Not shocking, just says what we already know.

I think I’m missing even how his original claim was in any way a gotcha (other than trying to spring a “perjury trap” on Jack Smith).

      1. Does him being in the same city as someone else mean he met with that person?
      2. Is it somehow wrong to meet with the person this Senator was trying to claim Jack met with?

I don’t think the right does logic very well. They come off the exact same way when they are accusing Fauci as being the bad guy in a pandemic. It’s all terrible logic, any and all evidence swept up and flung at their adversary and lots of innuendo and so on.

So often, they just come off as so many hooting apes rooting for their own team. The outside observer who is not guided by these same vibes and feels only has to wonder at how they believe any of what they do has any kind of logic.

The claim was that Jack Smith went to the same basketball game as two people working on the Georgia state case against Trump, and they sat together. Them “meeting” was “proof” of collusion.

Obviously none of this happened, but it was an allegation of more than just perjury.

I guess collaborating between prosecution teams is considered a no-no, but does anyone else remember how much the cons would whine and scream and howl about what they labeled “process crimes”? I’m thinking this came up with Bannon, Roger Stone, and Flynn.

And now, this was supposed to be their big gotcha? Not that donnie was in any way innocent, but that two prosecution efforts, (according to their conspiracy theory) compared notes on donnie’s crimes?

They’re so desperate to create a narrative that is in the same figurative zip code as a witch hunt that this guy thought it was a gotcha to put Smith in the same literal zip code as Fani Willis, with no actual wrongdoing alleged, and then just scream perjury when Smith tried to deny any part of it.

He knows it’s all just to score optics points with Trump. It’s all just a game to them.

He came out looking dumber than Tommy Tuberville, at least in this case. And Tommy is dumber than a bag of hammers.

I did have to laugh that Foghorn Leghorn was right behind him, helping to hold up their little visual aid. That guy is actually not a blithering idiot [1] , but loves to adopt the accent of one and invent all kinds of crazy folksy sayings that no one has ever said. Foghorn is not stupid at all, but loooooves to come off like a yokel. Tommy and this guy Schmitt seem to be the real deal when it comes to idiocy.

[1] Kennedy went to Oxford and he was a fucking Rhodes scholar. I somehow doubt he was meandering around campus talking like the dumbest extra on Hee Haw with the most absurdly stereotypical accent. But I guess sounding like a smartypants isn’t going to play well with the people that are voting R.

Kennedy earned the highest honors at Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes scholar, and he was executive editor of the Virginia Law Review at the not-too-shabby University of Virginia law school.

As an Ace Attorney themed account I would just like to say that this is the most Ace Attorney thing that has ever happened irl.

Phoenix: Crap, the prosecution’s got me. They just exposed my client as a liar and proved he was in Atlanta at the time of the crime… Maybe I should just give up…

Maya: Don’t lose hope just yet! Did you notice that poster they pulled out?

Phoenix: Come to think of it, I didn’t really get a good look at it. They pulled it down pretty quick.

Maya: Why do you think that is? There must be something on that poster that shows a contradiction with something in the prosecution’s case.

Judge: Well, it looks like that about wraps things up. I now pronounce the defendent G-

Phoenix: OBJECTION! Your honor, I’d like to take another look at those texts.

    [procedural bullshit]

Maya: Finally! Now’s our chance. Examine each statement closely, and I’m sure you’ll find the contradiction!

    [cross examination]

Phoenix: If it was Iowa playing… could it be that it was the Hawkeyes?

    [Reaction shots of people going:]

[Suddenly the whole case turns around, now you just have to prove who really did it even though you’re a defense attorney and that’s 100% not your job]

Admitting you’re wrong is a sign of understanding and willingness to learn. Outright continuing to think you’re right or push on in front of your peers is a special kind of idiot.

Congressional hearings are supposed to be important. I really wish we lived with a working gov’t and could censure representatives that straight up lie about shit.

I’ve got a question… when you subpoena text messages from the carrier, doesn’t that come with metadata? Meta data showing where the phone was at the time? If not gps then cell tower?

This guy will be voting on AI regulations. He doesn’t even know how cell phones work. He was the AG in Missouri. That’s a special kind of demonstrated incompetence.

It was one if those slam dunk attempts that bounces off the back of the rim, gets rebounded by the other team, and starts a three-point play for them. How can you watch that and not see that Schmitt himself is the dirtbag?
