Who said this?
Semi trucks have camera systems that send recorded events to a third party to be monitored and stored in case needed. The only reason this is not done is because police want the ability to cover up their crimes.
Crazy how in China’s ‘one party system’ there’s more discussions and disagreements than in the USA’s ‘two party system’.
Maybe someone bought Axon stocks recently and is looking to boost their value?

“We need police reform in america!”
Unironically, Democrats:

(This is clothing specific to Ghana (We didn’t get police reform.))
Remember when ‘defund the police’ became ‘fund the police’? sigh
Remember when ‘defund the police’ became ‘fun the police’? sigh
Also, bodycams were always a cop wishlist item. They control the footage, does anyone think if ICE had bodycams there would be transparency? Of course not, there would be a ton of “malfunctioning” bodycams when they did some shit, and in any case where a civilian showed even a hint of resistance or that they might fight back, the footage would be used to bury them.
For some reason police body cams malfunction a lot when they are shooting clearly innocent people and on ocassion corrupted footage becomes visible after the trial has acquitted the cop…
If the bodycams came with a law that said that in case of malfunction of the bodycam the one to be trust is the civilian all those “malfunctioning” bodycams wouldn’t have any problem working right.
Yea it should be the body camera footage vs the civilian testimony. The cops shouldn’t even get to tell " their side". Camera wasn’t working? Guess the civilian testimony is 100% true.
The most telling part of the vid is where he switches the camera from his right hand to his left, so he can pull his gun out with his right hand.
If thats the moment he started fearing for his life then he should never have been employed in law enforcement.
Dems are beholden to billionaires. They just don’t want to be as obvious as Republicans.
It’s not liberals versus conservatives.
It’s the rich versus the rest.
There’s a lot more of us than there are of them.
They are owned by the same oligarchs and Israel. Nothing will meaningfully improve for the American people until we end the Israeli occupation of our government. https://www.trackaipac.com/congress
DNC platform is tax the rich, raise minimum wage, and fund social programs. They have had 48 or less senators for over 13 years, currently 45. The last time they had 58 for less than two months they caucused with 2 independents to pass Medicaid. They would have launched a Public Option identical to Germany’s healthcare if not for one of those independents opposing it.
DNC is liberal, DNC is on our side, Vote DNC. Or, if an independent polls higher, then vote for them because at least they’re not a Republican and removing every single Republican should be our goal.
DNC is on our side, Vote DNC
Oh I will, but not for any incumbents. This current batch is most definitely NOT on our side, but the DNC is just a container, it’s filled with a liquid that has gone bad.
We pour out the contents of the container and replace it with something that hasn’t gone bad yet.
The current batch believes in ending PACs, taxing the rich, and expanding healthcare. Most importantly, perhaps, is they replace Republicans who would actively harm us all. Why don’t you want those things?
The current batch believes in ending PACs, taxing the rich, and expanding healthcare.
The current batch who ostensibly “want” these things are the same ones who didn’t DO these things when they had control of house and senate several times for the last several decades. I don’t know what to tell you, they are doing the same thing the GOP does with a different color background and a different color animal mascot.
Combine that with the israel-worshipping and cuck-wall kissing fealty to a genocidal regime, overt efforts by the mainstream dem leadership to squash actual progressive candidates like Mamdani, and the absolutely ATROCIOUS AND USELESS FUCKING RESPONSE TO DEATH SQUADS IN OUR CITIES, yeah I can’t get myself excited about these ancient fuckwads and liches hoarding their donor cash.
I will be voting for Dems, we don’t have an alternative that makes sense yet, but not the current ones. Every incumbent goes, every turd gets flushed.
They had 58 senate seats 16 years ago for 2 months. They had 53 seats over 13 years ago. They had 48 or less every year since.
And yet they do pass such legislations literally all the time. You just ignored it.
Hand wavy vibes, current mainstream Dems have folded over and over, do I really need to bring up the government shutdown at the end of last year? That’s just the most RECENT too, they are not out for us, they are working WITH the GOP and not stopping anything. Get your head out of the sand.
We can still have a democrat party, I’m advocating for NEW democrats and not this current batch of zionist collaborators. Don’t bother replying.
I’m all for newer more progressive dems, but the way you insult and drag through the mud all the current dems is ridiculous and harmful to us all.
The DNC has had multiple opportunities to tax the rich, raise minimum wage, and fund social programs during my lifetime and they have not done so once. I don’t believe them anymore when they say it’s their platform.
Being anti-Republican isn’t enough anymore. This shit will keep happening for as long as we allow private ownership of the means of production.
They have actually. They do those things literally every time they enter power. Maybe try searching if a statement is true before you post it.
The last legislation I can remember is the pro act, which failed. There have been progressive executive orders, progressive agency moves in the executive, progressive judges appointed, but all of this was destroyed by sleeper agent dinos. I’m also not remotely naive enough to believe that Manchin, Sinema, and Fetterman are the only ones. Legacy fossils like Dick Durbin was literally the leader and he betrayed us recently upon retirement. They’re largely career-minded capitalists through and through with few exceptions, the rotating villain shtick is fucking old. We’re dying, it’s not enough.
Biden Administration:

-
pardoned thousands of marijuana convictions, commuting 2500+ sentences
-
awarded $286 million for schools student mental health programs

-
brokered a peace deal in the Congo
-
strengthened alliance with Japan and South Korea over countering potential threats from China and North Korea
-
funded medical research for things like cancer, countering the previous cuts by Republicans
-
helped Class-A railroad workers to have industry-wide paid sick leave, albeit after he undercut their strike he still aided them in getting all of their demands in the following months
-
literally penned the first and then only AI oversight and regulation with his AI Executive Order
-
investigated grocery store price gouging and blocked mergers such as Krogers-Albertsons
-
The Respect for Marriage Act which protects gay marriage
-
protected LGBT+ Service Members and Veterans
-
signed multiple executive orders protecting lgbt+ throughout the federal government including “prevent and combat discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation” and “advance equality for LGBTQI+ individuals”
-
appointed the first openly LGBTQI+ Cabinet Secretary, White House Press Secretary, and White House Communications Director, the two first openly transgender people to ever be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, and the first out lesbian to achieve the rank of Ambassador.
this list goes on, and Biden wasn’t even particularly powerful given his only senate majority was 47 DNC and 3 Independents with VP tiebreaker, and only for 2 years.

No, I’m pretty sure Democrats are for more funding for ICE. Don’t project your ideals into these ghouls.
DNC have had 48 or less senators for over 13 years and now the ICE has more funding than most militaries. If you want change, vote out the Republicans, which almost always means vote DNC.

DNC is liberal. DNC is on our side. Vote DNC.
What a forsaken day to browse Lemmy
I’ve been a regular for quite awhile but I did recently move to piefed.
Feel free to make some kind of argument when you’re ready.
Many democrats are on our side. Historically, traditionally the DNC AKA leadership absolutely isn’t. There have been some changes in recent history. And that’s good. But till there’s enough history to plot out a new pattern of behavior. We’d be fools to treat them as if they changed.
The biggest problem with the Democratic party for decades has been that they’re serving two masters. Lip-service to the voters to try and get their neoliberal candidates in office. But legislating largely for the major donors that took over funding the party once Reagan broke the unions. The DNC talks the talk. But atm are unable to walk the walk. I hope that changes soon. With each death and retirement, things look a little better for them.
Many democrats are on our side.
Well I want people on my side who actually DO something.
You can be on my side all you want, but unless you’re just marching with us, I want you to have some fucking balls and political capital if you’re going to fight for me on a policy level.
Everyone does. AOC and Mamdani literally are marching with us. It’s largely leadership that keeps anything from getting done or changing. Blame them.
It’s largely leadership that keeps anything from getting done
THEY ARE THE LEADERSHIP
Christ it’s like the right still talking about the “Deep state” when they are deeper in the state than an Alabama hog farmer and his prize sow. Nah fam I am done playing the shell-game of accountability.
Dem “leadership” does nothing but field candidates they know will lose, and write stern letters to the people funding death squads. They are ineffectual because they don’t want to win. I don’t even care if I’m painting the whole party with too broad a brush, because whoever is in there still on our side don’t seem to have the power or will to go against their party in any meaningful capacity.
Flush the toilet, sink the turds, fill the bowl with new turds and lets see if they sink or float.
The DNC does have a new Chairman.
🙄
They have one of the strongest mandates imaginable, the popularity of this president and ICE and our “foreign policy” if you want to call it that are some of the most unpopular, openly reviled federal actions and policies ever undertaken in this country. The democrats could capitalize on this with great fury and show the power of the people is a stronger source of political capital than a small segment of armed nuts who prop up the current Trumpist GOP.
Dems are rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
AOC and Mamdani are leadership? Did anyone tell them or the DNC that?
The closest we’re getting to a shell game here is painting with a broad brush and lumping them all into one shell. You’re never going to get the old guard out if you continue to make enemies of the ones actually working to do it.
Who’s talking about Mamdani, Mamdani is the model of what we want, he is a representation of broad-scale, grassroots campaigning and electoral reform. But he’s not a leader of our federal system, he’s a mayor. But we need a lot more of what we did in New York across the whole country so that when we do get new leaders, they are supported on a state level.
For the rest of the incumbents in power, they ARE leaders of our country, and I hold them to a higher standard. I don’t support their genocide enabling, stern-letter-writing, lack of capitalization on their platform and complete fealty to the wealthy. They ARE my fucking enemy. FLUSH THEM ALL.
we are? leadership is the dnc.
I agree. We largely agree. So I’m not sure what the disagreement is.
Many democrats are on our side.
Yeah, like three of them.
And the rest are fighting harder to stop Democrats who actually are on our side than they are against fascists: people like Mamdani and Platner.
Yep, but thankfully it looks like Mamdani and Platner might be changing the equation. Fingers crossed.
Platner could easily be Fetterman v2.
Absolutely possible, though, less likely. He at least seems to show some introspection and ability to learn. But you’re not wrong to be wary of him considering his past stances.
They’re not enough, not on their own. It’s a signal sure, but it’s a signal that DNC has to fight harder to preserve their power and status-quo, so they will fight harder to both squash up-and-coming leftist leaders as well as reform their image to pretend to be working towards social change.
Actual progressives are not compatible with the current Dem party, the old-guard has the political capital of old money and plenty of donors who work across the aisle, the dems just have the “soft populist” presentation where the GOP has the “hard power” presentation, but they both serve the same masters.
If we want new Mamdani’s and the like to rise to power we have to flush this entire Democrat party in congress and senate. I don’t trust any of them, I don’t care if good people are caught in the wash, we will do better in this case with the devil we don’t know.
No one said they were. It’s a start. Not the end game.
Like AOC and Fetterman?
I really hope you’re not comparing AOC to Fetterman.
Fetterman was always shit. Long before he was elected. Still better than memeht oz. But yes, AOC has significantly pushed back against neoliberal leadership. Not perfect by any means. But some small hope for future improvement as more like her get elected.
DNC platform is tax the rich, raise minimum wage, and fund social programs.
And their campaign promises have so much value, clearly.
And I feel more and more that they only say these are their platforms because they have absolutely no chance of pulling any of it off so it’s safe to promise but they won’t be required to do the negotiating and political work to make it happen, especially if the entire party isn’t aligned behind the goal. It’s very easy to make promises for things but so far none of that has panned out on a federal level.
they have absolutely no
chanceintention of pulling any of it offI corrected this slightly, but you’re right. They know that none of it is actually going to get done, and they have the excuses already lined up: not enough votes, obstruction, filibuster, parliamentarian, etc. etc. etc.
It’s the same reason some billionaires insist that they support higher taxation on themselves, because they know it is never going to happen.
Maybe if we had more than 48 we could find out. Let’s call their bluff.
Every time the Dems have had a majority in my lifetime, they have failed to even discuss progressive legislation, let alone try to enact it.
The Dems had control for a few months in 2011, and that was when they passed the ACA. That was the only point in my lifetime they controlled the government.
The last time before that was 1961-1969. Which included such legislation as the Voting Rights Act and Civil Rights Act, though in sure you can find plenty more that was passed.
Not to mention that the Dems have absolutely been discussing progressive legislation. It’s failed to pass, passed and then been vetoed, or even at times been passed and then struck down by conservative courts.
In 2003 they banned campaign funding from PACs instead allowing only a maximum from individuals, but in 2007-2010 the SCOTUS shut it down then declared it unconstitutional.
The Inflation Reduction Act also contained a ton of good stuff not even related to Inflation.
The ACA is the brainchild of the Heritage Foundation. It is not progressive legislation.
I’m sorry that you think tens of millions of americans don’t deserve any medical care, but keep in mind they had to pass the watered down version due to Independent Joe Leiberman being the 60th vote needed to bypass the Republican Fillibuster.
I agree.
And also, itd be great if senators like Bernie, Warren and others, actually called out their “peers” who are obviously blocking progress.
I think my two Senators: Kaine, and Warner are playing a shell game where they go as corporate as they can and still give the appearance of resistance.
And yet I ha e to vote for them until there is a viable alternative. Its just so frustrating the lack of transparency.
And yet I ha e to vote for them until there is a viable alternative.
This coming November there will likely be challengers to almost every Dem seat, people smell how fed up the populace is with current DNC leadership and will likely throw their hats in the ring.
DNC is a container. We pour out the contents of the container and fill it with something new.
Honestly, I think voting for them isn’t even enough. We have to promote them. We have to outwardly support them and not talk shit about them online or in public, or else they will lose to a Republican and we’ll be all that much worse off.
We have to promote them. We have to outwardly support them and not talk shit about them online or in public
I mean, I get that you’re saying we need more solidarity, and we do, but this isn’t how. We absolutely have to throw away the current batch of current Dem reps and leadership and then elect new people to those seats and get behind THOSE people.
The DNC and old-guard establishment does NOT have our back, in most cases they have the exact same donors as the right. They have no intention of doing anything to help us.
The DNC and any Democrat is better than any Republican, and their voting histories are full undeniable evidence of that.
You want a better world? Vote DNC.
It was suspicious how many accounts claiming to be left-leaning all of a sudden in like, July 2024 decided to suddenly buy the lies the GOP had been selling for years that Biden was old and senile just because he has a stutter.
The DNC does need to have better primaries though. Which means people PARTICIPATING in them. But also not allowing people like Bloomberg to buy their way in. To actually HOLD primaries like they didn’t for Biden’s incumbent campaign.
Biden won the primary just like every incumbent in us history, and then he stepped down and his Vice President took over.
And when Biden won the previous primary in 2020, he actually more than doubled the runner up Bernie Sanders.
I mean, depends on your definition of “talking shit” is. If you would describe what I said as “talking sbit” I think that makes the party way too inwardly focused, and almost “cult of personality” like we see from the republicans.
The good thing about the democratic party is the wide tent and diversity of strategies. We need to be more transparent and proove ourselves since we dont (alway) have millionaire and billionaire funding.
I would not slander Democrats and still encourage voting, but to take a different stance, I cant exactly enourage Palestinians to vote for a candidate that actively promoted the genocide of their people. So its tricky, and open primaries and diqlog really clarify all that.
Muslim Imams and Leaders Letter to the Community on the 2024 Elections:
If they could do it then you can, too.
Nonsense.
Donald has the same amount of power that Clinton, Obama, and Biden had.
The problem isn’t a lack of power. It’s their predilection to enrich themselves at the expense of their constituents. The only difference is Donald isn’t offering shitty excuses like Dems do.
Biden had the least amount of power because as I mentioned the DNC have had 48 or less senators for over 13 years.
To be clear, Trump’s power comes solely from inaction in the Senate.
But, on that note, Biden accomplished a lot of great things including taxing the rich.
Biden accomplished a lot of great things
Totally. Genocide Joe achieved an economy that has my 80 year-old parents driving for DoorDash in a car they borrow from me, so his economy won’t render them homeless.
Awesome guy, that Joe.
Love it.
Man, you must have been a Maga until the Epstein files came out if you really believe all that. I normally try to bring reason and facts to every argument but I think this might be a tried and true “turtles all the way down” moment.
News about the USA makes me so incredibly sad and anxious currently.
I hope the world won’t go to shit and people will eventually see reason again.
As someone who’s been in the center of the storm watching it grow for decades, I have to warn you and everyone outside of the USA that this is NOT a USA problem, this is a social problem that is spreading across the globe.
Corporate interests know no borders and will continue to work to destabilize and divide populations so that people don’t push back on the rich. The rich can only keep their power if people give it to them, and as long as people hate each other, they will keep giving power to the wealthy. This isn’t even new.
It’s just that everyone sees the impact on the US the most because the US has the biggest everything and when you see the giant fall, you tend to think the issue is connected to just the giant.
You want to save your country? Get very involved. Form movements, be on guard for emotional appeals and propaganda from either side, understand that the force that will subvert your government and society will not come from expected angles, it will be the amplification of the worst voices on both sides of every issue until the median voters and liberal population get fed up and tune out, it will be ploys to capitalize on the sexual insecurity of young men, it will be campaigns about race and culture under the guise of some non-racist ideal like preserving public safety or anti-terror, and most of all it will be atomized perspectives… algorithms that feed people isolated perspectives of the world.
You can only fight this with community and movement and being social and bold. Get people off their chairs and get people organized in your local community, or find who is already doing that and help them.
I think the sooner we stop hoping and start fighting, will improve our chances to see a world based on freedom and reason within our lifetimes.
Maybe if we just bury our heads in the sand, say Dems are for taxing the rich, funding social programs, and raising the minimum wage, we will get there one day.
As long as the gas chambers are up to code, who am I to judge? - Lib circa 1944
Gives the same vibes as believing being anonymous online encourages hate, when the same people wouldn’t change their behavior when they are not anonymous.
there is no lesser evil, just the same evil dressed in different clothes
They only released this video because they somehow thought it exonerated the killer. They don’t release the videos of them abusing victims at their concentration camps, or breaking into peoples homes. They should always be on camera.
They’re controlled opposition funded by the same people, if you’re expecting them to save you then you’re out of luck.
If you’re American your best option is to get out and organise resistance, or to collectively fund a new political party with a backbone not in the pockets of billionaires.
Either way you need to get out there, sorry lads.
Have you not seen how many people there were at Bernie rallies? People did get out. Bernie would speak to crowds of 20k people, while Clinton spoke to like 50 people, and I was still wondering how she got 50 people to support her.
Make sure you have a gun.
Which Dems are saying this? In any case I’m not sure how a centrist saying a thing like that is surprising
Had to scroll way too far down to find someone asking this question.
I wouldn’t be shocked if there was a Democrat politician saying something like this, but let’s name and shame. There’s also a lot of Democrats calling for ICE to be defunded. Plenty of right-wing rags are dragging on AOC and Ilhan Omar for “promoting lawlessness” by calling for ICE to be defunded and reformed. Here’s an article describing what the Dems are doing to try to do to stop further funding to the DHS. Articles of impeachment have already been introduced against Kristi Noem.
The real problem was that in 2024, 1/3rd of the country voted FOR this shit and is loving it, and another 1/3rd of the country stayed home either because they didn’t care or just didn’t think Harris was a good enough candidate to be worth voting against fascism. So here we are.
