There are those that somehow have that urge but don’t ever act on it, and I think they do at least deserve less punishment than what the actual rapists and stuff do.
They don’t deserve any punishment at all. I can only imagine how horrifying it must be to live with that kind of illness, and the fact that they have enough humanity to control themselves is commendable. I want a future where non-offending pedophiles are treated with compassion by society so that they feel empowered to reach out to community and professional help.
The real monsters are the people who abuse children when they don’t even have pedophilia in the first place. The ones who just want to inflict suffering.
As for the death penalty, what about innocent people who are convicted? What about the kid who keeps his mouth shut because he doesn’t want the police to kill Daddy? What about the pedo kidnapper who always murders their victims because it’s easier to not get caught that way?

Sure, but I’m assuming even if someone isn’t violent, they are participating in CSAM or whatever you call it now, so they are viewing and sharing exploited children, which further encourages the producers of that content to make more. I haven’t researched the entire thing but that seems to make sense. That’s why I said they should be punished for participating. If they’re literally going through life normally without any kind of action online or in real life, then sure good for them.
edit: saw the second part of the comment, and yeah I don’t have an answer for that, but please share your source on stats that those behaviors would happen. Whatever policy we do should be driven by empirical data, not just vibes.
