I feel awful for young people.
Wish they could grow up in the world we did. The woods we played in are now McMansions and paved over. The malls, video stores, and pizza party places are gone or empty. Friendships were made organically and if someone wanted to fuck with you, they had to do it to your face and take some personal risk.
We were out having adventures until the street lights came on.
Worst of all though, we had hope for a prosperous future. Young people don’t even get to have that now.
The reason we don’t remember the bad stuff is because Power Ranger and X-men intro theme are just too good. And also Jumanji came out that decade.
The Men In Black intro was also a banger.
Seems so silly I’m hindsight, but it struck a nerve at the time:

Three of the biggest hit films of 1999: The Matrix, Fight Club, and American Beauty. The inciting incident in all three was, “Man, life is kind of boring…”
I fucking wish that was my problem.
Like the German intro version of the Megaman TV series
For a brief, shining moment you had Animaniacs, XMen, and The Tick all on back to back on Thursdays after school
it was great. Fox used to show blocks of shows in the morning before school so you could watch Power Rangers in the morning and then more when you got home. Also Disney had their after school cartoon block of Tale Spin, DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, etc.
and THEN here in Canada you could get like an hour of and half of Simpsons EVERY night. CBC would show Simpsons at 5, Fox at 5:30, and then another Canadian Station would show an episode at 6.
We really had it great in the 90s.
Oddly I’ve seen a lot of Animaniacs references recently.
So I downloaded an Animaniacs torrent to re-watch a bunch of stuff from the 90s that used to make me happy. Somehow it’s not as great as I remember. Or maybe I’m just old and miserable.
I preferred Freakazoid. I still watch it. the humor of that show was right up my ally. I still say “Que a couple le fromage?” and “poo gas” to this day.
My kids love Pinky and the Brain, so the target age group still seems to like them. I’d say the Looney Tunes aged fairly well from a humour perspective, although some scenes are pretty offensive in this day and age.
Nah good things happen all the time, we’re just not kids anymore. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars:_1990–2002
I’ve been slowly building a backyard garden with native plants to bring back local pollinators.
I’ve been making my good things happen.
so, like, I got laid sunday… and on saturday, I had been at a protest against trump with 200,000+ other peeps and had an absolute blast.
We had a completely different childhood my man.
Sora shutting down made me go “good things still happen”.
