They changed their firmware to disable you from upgrading the RAM
Probably because of the RAM lockdown thing, their firmware blocks unauthorized RAM components. They say it’s because scammers bought pis, replaced the ram with a shitty alternative and resold them. The non-malicious tinkerers and repair-enthusiasts obviously hate this for good reason.
That is stupid. All they needed to do, instead of making that draconian thing, was to print the RAM amount (in big, bold letters and numbers) on the PCB itself. If a Raspberry Pi owner complains to the RPi people about their board having some funny RAM issue, they could ask, “What’s the RAM amount printed on your board?”, the owner could tell the RPi person, and they could easily figure out if the RAM was tampered with.
Changed their EULA to claim ownership of new technologies developed on the Pi. Or something to that effect, it’s been a while.
