I have an opposing theory that Pizza Hut is a symptom of late stage capitalistic cancer. In the late 80s the capitalistic process of consolidating power in the Soviet Union into the new oligarchy had nearly run its course and the USSR dissolved not long after Pizza Hut showed up on the scene.

Here, in the homeland of Pizza Hut, Pizza Hut has shifted from being a casual sit down pizza chain, to a casual pizza buffet chain, to an exclusively carry out fast food pizza chain. The uniqueness of the architecture has been lost just as architectural drive in the USSR shifted over time from Construcivist to Stalinist to Brutalist to Soviet modernist (which is commonly critiqued for lacking personality in comparison to prior eras).

Here in the states we are currently seeing all of our architecture lose personality. Suburban developments are the same house over and over again, often not constructed to code. Car oriented developments are just the same strip mall or basic big box store plopped all over the place with no design considerations given to the surrounding landscape. Even our shitty pizza joints have lost what little personality they once had, now becoming relegated to existing within strip malls next to illusion of choice grocery stores.

Suburban developments are the same house over

Nihil novi. It has been true since at least 1960’s. There’s even song about it from the 60s:

        Little boxes on the hillside,

        Little boxes all the same…

The surprising thing is not that they’re for sale, it’s how cheap they are to buy.

Children had to prostitute themselves for food because of that man. Nice person my fucking ass. I wish hell was real. His disposition was more pleasant than Trump but the choices he made were often just as devastating.

I’m sure Gorbachev was far from perfect, but nobody foresaw how bad the collapse of the Soviet Union would have been, or that it would have collapsed at all. The “shock therapy” that happened post-Soviet Union was long after he’s gone.

Nobody but communist theory, and the people who pushed for it.

It was naked capitalism and it’s what the world is going to experience once China and Russia are gone.

The Soviet Union wasn’t capitalist when it collapsed, and the current Russia isn’t communist. China is communist but in name only.

What was bad about the collapse? The dissolution of the USSR itself? I had assumed it was the economic struggle during and after the transition to capitalism.

If I’m sent to 1965, I’m just going rogue.

I move to some backwater village, get some blue collar job, buy a house for $20.000 and put the rest of the money in suspiciously good stock picks.

Pretty much my thoughts, but I would also memorize some lottery numbers, or write them down if it’s not terminator time travel and I can take items with me.

I would hope to take someone with me though, it would be fun to sit around and reminisce about the future, “hey remember when this is going to happen?”

The hit list is rather excessive but I’d have the secondary goal of slapping my grandfather upside the head in the 80s and teaching him the glories of PPE and how it’s effective against lung cancer.

probably just go back and hug my grandfather one last time.

Funny thing is that I never met my grandfather, he died when my mom was still young. But I figure that I’d have to offset whatever damage id do by exterminating my father’s family.

Wow trump made that commercial while he was still married to his second wife. So he made a national TV ad winking to the idea of him cheating on his second wife with his first wife.

Everyday I get to learn a new way our president is the worst piece of shit imaginable, fun times…

Somehow the worst piece of shit imaginable is still good enough to be the leader of the united States twice. Or more, who knows.
