Which is why it’s a shame to see you fight each other as if that isn’t the case.

I would wholeheartedly recommend reading How To Win Friends And Influence People (or at least this summary). Especially if you’re trying to convince people to vote in the midterms.

Crazy thought, but as we descend into fascism maybe we should simply vote in the manner most likely to remove those fascists and stop the descent instead of voting for candidates that literally cannot win to try to prove some kind of point.

I never thought my stance of “we should vote and also try to organize long term change, local support, and maybe even a socialist revolution as treat” would be meet with such vitriol. And not about the second part, just daring to suggest people also vote, like, at all.

You see, here’s the difference. Maga are not humans. They are small little cockroaches and we need to label every one of them so we could exterminate them later.

They do not deserve basic human rights, healthcare or clean air. They are not entitled to pension. These roaches should be sterilized

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

We don’t need good intentions. We need strategies that work and a plan.

After watching nearly two straight years of this shit, I want to see results that fix some of these problems and stop the bleeding. I give less than a shit if we all kumbaya our way there together.

Well, the better way forward would be acknowledging that the Democratic party isn’t a party and building the institutional infrastructure to respect that this is a coalition of several entirely distinct constituencies with very different views and restructure internal party politics to reflect that. Right now, the problem is the Democratic party doesn’t actually HAVE a platform. It has a platform statement, most of which the “party” will never achieve because there isn’t a single plank that is supported by every congress critter. About the only thing we all agree on is “Not Trump, not now, not ever” and why is entirely up to the individual.

We also have to come to grips with the fact that what the donors want, and what the voters want, are entirely different things and both sides of that are impotent without the other. We have witnessed what happens when money runs the show. Voters don’t show up and chaos ensues. We also know that without money, organizing becomes impossible in an economy where any kind of volunteer service costs individuals a whole lot more than just some free time.

the Democratic party isn’t a party

For better or worse (it literally cannot be worse than the Republican party), the Democrat party is the only party that can unseat the Republican party from power. That is the reality we live in.

        Vote accordingly.

complaining about people identifying the toxicity of the bipartisan consensus is just shooting the messenger. you complain about propaganda, while you yourself are reproducing a propaganda narrative.

if the democrats actually distinguished themselves from the republicans it would motivate people to vote for them. the party most responsible for demotivating people is the democrats, rather than owning that their loyalists prefer to blame anything else.

those two points are not contradictory at all.

loyalists vote for the party regardless, but there aren’t enough loyalists to win without a broader turnout. winning requires turnout from people that the party has failed to motivate. that was what happened last election at least.

but yeah totally, any criticism of democrats is actually secret sabotage or whatever

The goal is to immediately stop the descent into fascism by electing the ONLY party that can unseat the fascists THEN reform that party by voting out the assholes who can’t get onboard with what voters want.

To add, in 2024 the 3rd party candidate with the most votes was magician Jill Stein, who magically appears right before elections, then magically disappears again afterward. And she got a whopping half of a single percent of the total votes cast.

So yeah, ain’t no 3rd party going to win a federal election anytime in the near or remote future. And ain’t no 3rd party even really trying. So why fucking vote for them?

You do not capitalize the word democrat unless you’re talking about members of a corporate controlled party within the United States. What’s so hard to understand?

Do you really see the idea as exclusive to you? I get it. Americans don’t see democracy as universal, just some selective cudgel you weaponize to steal natural resources. It’s not. It’s a universal human right that we all are entitled to.

Want is different from “can have”. One tick to the right in that picture here means 0.5 degrees of extra warming. 3 ticks means another catastrophic war. So yeah, let’s just stop it from moving rather than attack the only thing that can stop it.

Disingenuous, they clearly state they believe it is the best we can hope to achieve, not that it is what they want. I don’t think they’re correct, but this is a bad faith reading. Avoid this in the future for stronger left cohesion.

No, that is not how it works. If I want a filthy street to be clean, then not adding more trash is not a solution. You have to actually remove existing trash. Voting the same party again that has failed people now and in the past is simply not the solution. If you vote shit instead of garbage because shit is at least compositing… the street stays filthy.

This is why no one thinks you’re convincing. Because if you fundamentally believe this is the best we got, you have nothing offer, and the fact that you can’t see that means our only options are to fight you and ignore you, and when you insist on spreading your position on social media, you must be fought

Yeah, surely keep on fighting. But vote D in the mean time. Rs need to be kept away from power, and not voting D is enabling Rs.

Voting in Ds also enables Rs, and we have no shortage of examples.
